Reviews:
* If you're seeking a compact sedan or hatchback with fun driving manners, great fuel economy, and class-above looks and features, the Mazda3 is an excellent choice. That Mazda's compact car starts under $18,000 and retains its value very well is icing on the cake. Source: KBB.com
* In the world of compact cars the Mazda3 is the true driver's bread and butter. Available in 2 unique models including a 4-door sedan with up to an EPA-estimated 41 MPG Hwy and a 5-door hatchback with a spacious interior. From sporty wheels to its sleek clear-lens taillights, Mazda3 masterfully blends function with design. Heated side mirrors, unobtrusive rain-sensing windshield wipers and bright-tipped dual exhaust outlets are just some of the standard features that sit atop the stylish 18-inch alloy wheels on s Grand Touring. Mazda3's cabin was designed to excite before you even rev the engine, boasting a spacious interior; stylish, ergonomic seating and a dashboard full of available features including dual-zone automatic climate control and a one-touch power moonroof, Keyless Entry & Start System and Welcome Lighting System, heated front seats and an 6-way power adjustable driver's seat, 60/40 split fold-down rear seating. Mazda's SKYACTIV-G gasoline 2.0L engine produces efficient-yet-uncompromised performance, or for even more power choose the motorsports-proven 2.5L engine on 4-door and 5-door models. Both come available with 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Enjoy crisp, immersive sound delivered through an available 9-speaker Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound System with AudioPilot ambient noise compensation technology. • Worst Vehicle I've Ever Had

By LB on Tuesday, February 26, 2019

    2.0
I've had this Mazda for two years and it has failed both annual state inspections. My previous car (Ford Focus) never failed inspection until it was ten years old. This Mazda has also needed a new wheel bearing and new brakes so far. Brakes are not covered under warranty. I did not expect to sink so much money into a nearly-new vehicle. Also, the keyless start is faulty. It doesn't matter if I put new batteries into the fobs. The car often won't recognize the fobs. Each time I get into this vehicle it is a toss-up on whether it will actually start. The traction control is also an issue. Don't use it. I've almost been in wrecks because of the lack of gas pedal control it provides.
  • CRs Car of the Year in 2014 Was Well-Deserved

    5.0
For the price, Mazda packed a lot of features into the 2014 Mazda3, I Grand Touring 4 DR Hatchback model. A very good sound system, back-up camera, navigation system, Bluetooth, blind spot monitor, and moon roof to name a few. I average 30 mph with the 6 speed manual transmission in city driving. I prefer driving with a stick, and in 2014 this was one of the few cars offering a manual transmission. The 4-banger is slow - no doubt - but the manual transmission helps when acceleration is needed. Its a trade-off with the superb mph. With the back seats down, the hatchback offers a good amount of space for lugging stuff. Blind spots are troublesome, but the monitor helps greatly. The back-up camera is the bomb. At highway speeds, cabin noise is a bit on the noisy-side. Seating is comfortable, and the drivers seat is motorized and offers numerous seating positions; lumbar support is excellent. At ~40,000 miles, I have had no major mechanical issues. The only item needing repair to-date is the moon roof - it refuses to open although it does rise up to vent. AC system still cranks out cold air. Navigation system software is now showing its age, but the controls are intuitive. Suspension is a bit stiff, but steering is very good - its nimble. Interior is well designed, with all displays easily readable and all controls understandable and within reach. Minor nit - the hatchback door lacks a recess or bracket to which to attach a bungee cord when carrying over-sized items
  • Early Impressions

    5.0
For those considering this car, heres a few initial impressions after a few days ownership: 1 - This thing is fast, not simply great acceleration but sustained speed and power even uphill. I was driving on a country road with occasional passing lanes and simply swept past other cars struggling to do 40-50 while the Mazda 3 was still ticking up. I cant speak for the 2.0 engine but the 2.5 is simply amazing. 2 - If you can go for the light seats. The dark seats are fine for comfort but I managed to find a much lighter trim which really makes it seem so much larger and cooler (in both senses of the word). With the dark trim it felt a little like staring into a black hole at times. 3 - Go with the Grand Touring option if you possibly can. My 2017 version was around 22,000 with the premium package included while the used sport or touring were going for around two to three thousand less. The extra comfort and ability to drive for longer periods is definitely worth it. The interior looks and feels like something I would expect in a 30-40 thousand Lexus or BMW. 4 - Having previously owned an MX-5 this is the closest you can get in a car which comfortably seats 5. While I dream that some day Mazda will produce a 5 seat convertible, this is a pretty good substitute.
